Keaton Shapiro
Dramaturg. Linguist. Artist. Lawyer.
The work I do supports artists, it exists to support the creative work of my peers. As a dramaturg, I search for the underlying facts, stories, histories, and tidbits that come together to help directors, actors, and designers create a world onstage. I read, I google, I condense, I synthesize, and finally I distill. As a linguist, I dissect the words and pull out as much meaning and history as I am possibly able to, while understanding how communication happens. My job is to take the data I accumulate and make it interesting and exciting to my team, so that they are not only able to use it but they’re also itching to. Through the work I immerse myself in, I hope and intend to discuss the world in which we live. I am drawn to social justice, from the rights of gender and sexual minorities (GSM) and BIPOC to intersectional feminism, and I try to use my position to promote these movements and perpetrate their ideals.
